This is the digital home of an analog music company. Our first long playing album, Sit Back, Relax and Unwind by celebrated sax stalwart Steve Wilson, will be available in 2017. The album was recorded with keyboards by Ray Angry, bass by Ben Williams and drums by Willie Jones III in August, 2016 onto beautiful 2" analog tape. It was mixed onto 1/2 inch tape and mastered in the same format for cutting onto master disk at Masterdisk by Scott Hull.

Here was designer's original cover proposal nixed by label owner Steven B. Mandel because Mr. Mandel prefers ampersands to"and".
We have never been afraid of familiarity

Totally Awesome. Totally LJ
The image at your left (or above, depending on your device) was a cover design proposal for the Steve Wilson lp which we will release later this year. It was done by a talented graphic artist named Lawrence McGarvey, a.k.a. Awesome LJ. Although we went in a different direction for the actual lp art, this design does capture the spirit of the project in an understated, relaxed Awesome LJ way.
Give the writer some
This is Brian Fox. He is a songwriter among his many talents. You won't find recordings for commercial release of any of his compositions except on JMI Recordings.
JMI 1. Steve Wilson "Sit Back, Relax & Unwind"
Somehow Steve Wilson's considerable chops on alto and soprano sax never earned him a vinyl lp as a leader. Along with support from Willie Jones III, Ben Williams and Ray Angry, JMI has remedied that unjustified omission from his resume. "Sit Back, Relax & Unwind", slated for a late-2017 release, is a Steve Wilson album his fans and the uninitiated will love. The repertoire on the album encompasses both non-traditional jazz composers like Steve Mandel and Brian Fox, whose pop/rock/folk tunes were arranged by Mr. Wilson, an original composition by Mr. Wilson and a killer arrangement of Bowie's Space Oddity as arranged by Ray. Look for it only on JMI long playing vinyl.
Everyone at JMI is pleased as punch to announce we will be recording Ray Angry One with scintillating band including Ambrose Akinmusire, Myron Walden and other(s). All on rich 2" tape. The session is/was 24-26 March 2017.
Just add trumpet
This is Ambrose Akinmusire (pronounced Ah-kin-muse-sir-ee). He will be playing trumpet at the recording session for JMI Recordings lp Ray Angry One. We heartily recommend the vinyl double lp he released as a leader on Blue Note records.
Mr. Walden has long been one of our favorite saxmen and we think he will add his magic touch to Ray Angry One. Myron hails from Miami, just like Ray, so maybe they will cook up some South Beach flavors together.
Willie Jones III
Willie's been one of our favorite drummers for years. He is a master of both understated soft playing and wild flailing polyrhythms, all in service to the song. You will feel his warm, enveloping yet enervating presence on Steve Wilson's "Sit Back, Relax & Unwind" lp.
Ben won the Thelonius Monk prize for bass and hasn't looked back. He was an important part of the band for "Sit Back, Relax & Unwind", selected by Mr. Wilson himself.
Meet JMI engineer/producer/minority owner David Slitzky. This young man proved so effective and indispensable during the recording of "Sit Back, Relax & Unwind" we could never envision making a record without him - so we gave him 10% of the company. He's a helluva nice guy too. Look for him online as Sir Dave Jonze but always remember one thing: he's ushering in the return of real music.
Eric will be playing drums on Ray Angry One. Eric is from Houston, Texas and has played with many great musicians. We are looking forward to hearing what he brings as the beat keeper of this quintet.
Derrick played bass on Ray Angry One. If you want to hear an excellent example of his work before the lp drops, check out The Co-Op on Brown Brothers Recordings.
the best creative couplings usually seem odd at first but there's something in the oddness that makes sparks. jMi co-founder and producer Steve Mandel and label propeller Ray Angry are such a couple.
